TODAY IN THE STUDIO

I was in and out of the studio all day. Working on multiple pieces, but mainly a portrait of me and my cats.

I started the day at about 7am working on a big piece I’d had up on the wall for a few days. It wasn’t long before I moved on to starting the portrait. I started with my own face, I’ve painted it a few times now so I was feeling pretty comfortable. Then I moved on to the kittens. I haven’t tried to paint them from a picture before so I was kind of winging it. I started with just one color, a darker shade. I blocked in the dark areas and main features. I then begin to had more colors to build up the painting.

After taking a break I worked on a few abstract pieces. Mostly just playing with the paint and having fun. Then I returned to the portrait. Now working on adding details and increasing contrast. I fill in all the mid tones. Next I paint the pulps, teeth and whiskers. Any details in black are added at the end, and white highlights are last. Its now past 7pm and I think Im done painting for the day. Im happy with how this piece is looking, I think I’ll work a little more on my hands and the background tomorrow.
