MEOW
My cat Tyson loves to play with the blue feathers on a stick. Watching it looks like he’s in a great battle with a small blue bird. I was thinking about that playful little kitty while working on this piece, trying to be as free and fun as Tyson with his toys.
PLAY is a theme that I often visit in my work. Creativity blossoms when you play. Finding out through play how the colors, lines, shapes, and textures interact. The most creative people I have ever met are children-all they do is play. The only rule when you play is to have fun. There is no expectation. The possibilities are endless. The world is yours to paint.
When I paint I don’t often have and idea of what the final piece is going to look like. I allow my ideas to flow through my materials and onto my canvas. I have fun throughout the process. I paint what I’m thinking. While making this pieces I was thinking about Tyson and the blue feathers. The way the feathers float through the air, and how quick and accurate Tyson’s movements are. I wanted to portray his joy and energy in this beautiful abstract painting.
