SELF PORTRAIT
I have always liked to paint faces. But when it came to someone’s face I’ve been nervous to attempt. Painting someone’s likeness seemed like such a daunting task.
About a year and a half ago I made a transition from working primarily as a potter to being a painter. In this time I have learned so much about my materials. I have gotten to experience color like never before. I learned to let the paints showcase my ideas. Leaving pottery was a hard decision but important for my growth, both as an artist and in life. Becoming a painter has helped me find my voice as an artist. I make art because I love the process. My art is about creativity and life. I want people to look at my art and know that I loved making it. I want them to see me.
The self portrait. Im not sure what came over me on this day but I pulled up a selfie and decided I would paint it. I wanted to make a piece that looked like me and felt like me. I had to be pink. I started blocking in shapes and colors and then I took a step back and omg it was me! This piece is about self love and self confidence. Im so excited to be able to create art with so much feeling. This painting made me feel like I can paint anything. It made me proud of the path I have chosen and the life I have created.
I think I’ll keep painting faces.
