MINNOWS
Inspired by a day trip to Payson Arizona. We spent the day by a chain of pools leading to a waterfall. It was warm but not hot, refreshing compared to the heat in the valley. This was our first outing since we moved to the city. Someone told me once that hiking was like food for the soul. It’s kinda funny but so true. Spending time in nature is invigorating, it feeds my passions and creativity.
The pools were cold. We tried to swim but nearly froze. Instead we put out a blanket and just sat, playing card games, and taking in the beautiful day. I noticed the pools were filled with minnows, and if you dipped a toe in they would all swim towards you. I took this picture of the water, I loved the texture of the rocks and the way the minnows gathered. I inverted the picture and that’s what I painted.
This painting makes me feel calm. Like I’ve just gotten some much needed rest and relaxation.
Where do you go to recharge and feed your soul?
